Climate change mitigation and the Armed Forces at NEDS 2021 November 18 | Ahoy Rotterdam
Dear Sir/Madam,
This year's NIDV Exhibition Defence and Security, NEDS 2021, will focus on Climate change mitigation and the Armed Forces. Climate change is causing conditions becoming increasingly extreme and proving to have a major impact on peace and security. During the Plenary morning program, various speakers will address the opportunities and solutions that industry, knowledge institutions and government can find together.
The Ministry of Defence is increasingly incorporating environment and climate change into its policy. They are committed being 70% less dependent on fossil fuels by 2050. In that year, e.g. encampments in mission areas must be 100% self-sufficient. Suppliers in our sector will therefore have to focus even more on supplying sustainable products and services. Various experts from the armed forces, police, industry, and government will discuss this during the plenary session.
During the NIDV Innovation Challenge on 17 November, various start-ups will compete to present their solution to operational issues presented by the Ministry of Defence. The two Innovation Challenges in 2021 are drone-warm technology and the use of hydrogen as an energy carrier under operational conditions, including transport and safe storage.
NEDS 2021 is made possible by main sponsors Damen and Saab who will present themselves together on the exhibition floor.
